about
This is a song about relationships. Humans are social creatures, and also selfish. I started observing myself and culture and realized the shallowness of relationships. Friends charade as friends just so they would feel happy inside. The more "friends" they have, the more popular they feel. So they work hard to develop an image of themselves through Facebook and texting and IM that makes them feel comfortable inside. But sooner or later, they realize these efforts never please them, nobody really knows them. Or cares to know them. And then that person realizes they never cared to know anyone else. I believe everyone gets hit with this realization sooner or later, no matter how close your friends are. Or your girlfriend/boyfriend. Or your wife. Though it occurs at different levels, we never feel like we are truly understood and known to the core. It's in this realization that all the distractions are taken away, and I find God. Waiting, knowing, jealous. Beautiful.
lyrics
I can't live alone with myself,
I build walls of friends to keep me away
and they all do the same
all for the sake of selfish security
cuz they don't care about you
and you don't care about them
its your pride and joy that your willing to defend
We spread ourselves so thin,
Everybody gets a piece but then we notice the transparent bodies we're in,
but then we feel like nothing at all,
even amidst our shallow entourage,
cuz we spread ourself so thin,
Nobody knows anyone else from within
We're more concerned with how we feel inside ourselves
My bubble grows and grows as I let people in,
but soon enough, there's no oxygen
But I hold on to my last fleeting breath of security
In knowing this entourage is in love with me
We're more concerned with how,
we feel inside ourselves.
We're more concerned with how,
we feel inside our skin.
Cuz they don't care about you,
and you don't care about them,
cuz its your pride that your willing to defend
knowing that your popular
and knowing that your loved
but don't you know you're all in the same game,
same humans with different names
all struggling for the same things
all fighting for position.
